in the initial going there was talk only the new acting head of the cia would come and testify. that was unacceptable to the hill and eventually everybody thought that they better have general patraeus go to the hill and talk about not only the investigation that he did but also the time line of what really took place there. we've had some confusing stories that i think there are people on the hill and people in the country that would like to know what happened. we lost four people and there have been a whole variety of stories about just exactly what happened of how it happened and when it happened. general patraeus is the one who can provide clarity to that. i think his appearance was essential. and i'm glad he's doing it earlier rather than later. >> my last question and we'll move on. it seems that congress members and two former congress members yourself, seem to be upset the fbi was doing this whole investigation or knew what he knew. and they weren't told. can you fill me in on the role of congress as a sitting body. might there be hearings into all of these e-mails betwe
